Because The Bean – Venus In Pain – Review

Because the Bean is a hardcore punk band from Reggio Emilia born ten years ago. Ten years later,  the quartet returns with a brand new album entitled “Venus in Pain”, released on January 30 2015, by the German label Pest Und Cholera. It’s the first time they sing in English, facing, in the lyrics, different topics like defeat, conflicts and passions, through an introspective and skeptical point of view.
The four pieces band, which has been collaborating with Roberto Perciballi since 2009 playing live Bloody Riot covers (a historical band from Roma), introduces 12 old-school hardcore tracks which still sound modern.
The rock’n’roll influences make “Venus in Pain” original, dynamic and involving, indeed, the track-list flows nicely because of its well made composition.
Except for “Dark horses”, and “Requiem for a Bean” (both performed acoustically), the other 10 tracks are homogeneous and each song easily sticks to your head due to the catchy and powerful voice, riffs and rhythms.
In the end, I’d say “Venus in Pain” is a scrappy, well crafted album (artwork included), which I recommend. Support the album (you can listen to it for free on the band’s Bandcamp) and enjoy the band’s shows because these guys are really worth it!
