Our favorite albums: the best punk albums of 2021 according to Radio Punk crew

We did a little poll within the Radio Punk crew as well. As you know we have very different tastes, so here is the list, in alphabetical order, of the best punk albums of 2021 chosen by us:

Belvedere – Hindsight is the sixth sense

Five years after their last work, Belvedere come back and put out a completely different record. Hindsight is the sixth sense contains 13 new tracks very fast but at the same time not in the sound of the band (and not even close to This is a Standoff if you’re wondering) but not for this does not give surprises (such as Elephant March with its tight rhythm) and repeated listening. Try it to be convinced.

C4 – La provincia odia

EP with 4 four tracks one more beautiful than the other. By now I think you’ve figured it out, C4 are one of the favorite bands of more than a few of the crew! “La Provincia Odia”, is a perfect mix between street punk and hc, strongly characterized by the singing and the powerful and explosive riffs. Peculiarity of the band and this EP is definitely the strong cultural identity in fact “Sambini a sòi” and “Biddas Scarèscias” are sung entirely in Sardinian. A blast!

Descendents – 9th & Walnut

There’s certainly no need to introduce Descendents. And in this album you can fully find everything we have always loved about the Californian band. 9th & Walnut contains 18 tracks (and the longest song is 2 minutes and 22) that slide away with anger and flavor in our ears.

Gli Ultimi – Sine metu

Voted overwhelmingly by you readers, “Sine Metu” by Gli Ultimi was definitely one of the best Oi/Street punk records of the year. 12 tracks that manage to tell the everyday life of each of us, including defeats and anger but without ever sinking into sadness. Lyrics and music that, song after song, give you great energy!

Goulamas’K – Luna roja

The charm and magic of Occitania in an album with warm tones and involving rhythms. With the renewed line-up (new musicians, new instruments), Goulamas’K churn out the best album of their twenty-year career. Modernity and tradition, personal and social themes and a variety of languages and styles are the ingredients of this captivating mix. Nine very different tracks to listen to on repeat. We talked about it in more detail here.

Krav Boca – Barrikade

Music with a Mediterranean flavor, rap alternating between French and Greek, in some cases Spanish, collaborations with various artists (e.g. Call the Cops or Brigada Flores Magon)… in short, there are all the typical characteristics of a Krav Boca album ready to make a big splash. And so it is. A record with more aggressive and pressing tones compared to City Hackers; a record that has the only fault of lasting too little! Each track expresses the right amount of anger and rhythm, at each listening you can catch different nuances, resulting both from the atmosphere created by the almost hypnotic harmonies and from the different voices that alternate always on fire. Impossible to get bored!

La mala sementa – S/T

“Sagra Music, Unpopular Ballroom Songs. Available for Weddings between people and bottles.” This reads the description given by the band and already this earns the album many points.
A record to be savored slowly like a good wine or better, like a selection of wines as each song has unique characteristics. The leitmotif of the work is an omnipresent melancholy that has an aftertaste of struggle and redemption. An advice: take the time to read the lyrics, a continuous play of words that touches the most varied themes, from the most intimate to the most political, passing through some healthy blasphemy. The impeccable music always keeps the attention high. Enjoy listening!

Tacita – Tacismo

Hush hush, without telling anyone – so much so that as of today it’s only on digital – this masterpiece from the Roman band is out. The shot is the usual, you’d know it’s Tacita at the first note, but in this album they’ve outdone themselves, combining oi!/punk/hardcore and rock n roll flair to perfection. There isn’t an undertone song, so much so that in the poll they were all top rated! Every time you listen you understand how unique and special this album is: lyrics written and sung in a superb way, devastating riffs, bass and drums and solos here and there that embellish everything without ever weighing down the song. A cannonball! Let’s hope it comes out soon in physical format!

The Chisel – Retaliation

No offense to Chubby and The Gang, another Charlie Chubby Charles band that made a resounding record with their “The Mutt’s Nutts” (we covered it here). But “Retaliation” by The Chisel is a gem. Social message, political, working class anthems and every song has its point. A wonderful blend of oi!/punk/hardcore and distinctly British melodic sounds. A must-have, also because it was released by La Vida Es Un Mus in every format (tape, LP, CD) and the cover is a declaration of intent and war… Of Class! You have no excuses!

22 Longs Riffs – Contre courant

Harsh, sharp guitars and catchy melodies in an emotionally charged album. When going against the current means feeling empathy, tenderness and solidarity, and screaming it with anger. With this third album, which we talked about in more detail here, 22 Longs Riffs confirm themselves as one of the most interesting bands in the French punk scene.

We hope you liked our poll and our favorite albums! We had a lot of fun, 2021 gave us many interesting records, despite the hard times. If you have any proposal for next year’s poll, mail us at info@radiopunk.it
