Goldfinger @New Cross Inn, London – 25th May

As some of you know, going to a concert at New Cross Inn is always exciting for me, ‘cause this pub in South London has always brought me a lot of amazing nights, since my first concert in this place, among those walls full of past and future gig posters, each and everyone dedicated to punk rock and independent music. So, I’m glad to be back to enjoy a ska punk night with Goldfinger.

The Bottom Line opened the night, a four piece band from London, with their fast and simple pop punk, which is the right way to flame up the atmosphere,

I’ve never seen the place so packed – I found it difficult to reach the bar and I started sweating before jumping – and so I went out to smoke, just to find all the band, singer, bassist, drummer and brass section, gladly speaking to the fans on the streets. Not even time to say hello, and let’s start!

There’s nothing to say, Goldfinger started the set in an exciting mood, with their mix of ska and punk, which make you move your feet even if you don’t want to. The band is now around for more than 20 years and, a part from singer John Feldmann, on the bass guitar we find Mike Herrera from MxPx, a band and musician which I personally like a lot and who was a pleasure to see live for the first time.

The band knows how to entertain and how to create the right atmosphere, playing classic songs such as Get Up, Open Your Eyes and Superman, and songs extracted from the last album (which I think is really good) as Put The Knife Away and Tijuna Sunrise. There’s also time for some covers, from Just Like Heaven by The Cure, to the unavoidable 99 Red Balloons, song that makes jump and bump even the walls if that would be possible.

So, nothing to complain, as usual a perfect organization and a spectacular concert, with an energy and simplicity really rare!
