Split album “NO BRAIN NO SHAME” – MALEMUTE KID/DEAR DUST/LOW DERIVE/ONODA – Review

Just released directly from the recording studio, “No Brain No Shame” produced by Lonely Raven records togheter with Let’s Goat records, makes me discover four amazing italian bands that leaves me happily surprised. Maybe this is the best that italian punk can offer today, in terms of production, sound and creativity. Let’s start with the Malemut Kid, quartet from Piedmont with american influences, the ones I like, with melodies pop punk, scratchy voice, all that you need for a good pop punk song: infact “Filler” is the representation of all the above. The second track is of Dear Dust from Rome, strong, dark, “About the haze” reminds me of the Alkaline Trio of “From Here to Infirmary”, they are solid and poetic. The Low Dèrive are from Milan, they present “Monday, September 8th” a track with punk rock flavors like Social Distortion and Face to Face; I’ve said it all, in this split album we do have all the flavors of my favorite bands and a bone breaking chorus… Excellent! The Onoda, amazing, charged and aggressive, they do not lack anything, the track reminds me of Rancid with a Californian skate punk sound: “Forget Forgot Forgotten”. The boys knows their job very well and they demonstrate it with “Strangled” cover of the Osker. The cover of the Low Derive is of the Heat Tape “Four Track mind”, the song is not very well known, but it gets credit on the hands of the four punk rockers. “Skull” of the Misfits, does not need any presentation and the Dear Dust makes it the best cover song of the album. The Malemute kid makes a good job with “Choices Made” of the CIV. What else shall I say? I am happy to listen to alive italian punk bands, full of new material and at the pace of the european bands that are heavily appreciated worldwide. The Italian Punk Rock is alive, it will find you and it will kick your ass!
