La Libertà è una Bella Cosa Festival @Trieste – April 21st, 2018

Today’s live report is about something that is very dear to us at Radio Punk: a self-managed big concert! It was called “La Libertà è Una Bella Cosa Fest” and was held on April 21st in Prosecco (TS), in a theatre hall. Born, if I have understood correctly, from the will of L’Ordegno to return to play in their own territory, it was then transformed into a real, self-organized and proudly libertarian fest.
We could not miss it so, equipped with distro and desire to have fun, we start with the punk-mobile. We move on to take a friend of ours who, like us, decides to go and support local punx.

As soon as we arrive, we start immediately with a round of greetings and drink the first and only beer, damned conscience and damned driving license.

The first on stage are Aneurisma, a band from Monfalcone that besides being very young is also full of energy; their aggressive and sometimes rapped crossover reminds us of the mythical Rage Against The Machine. Go on like this!

After having tasted focaccia and crostini with hummus, both sublime, we realize that it’s the turn of Liz Pegris, a local trio that with their rock n roll mixed with punk and garage sound plays for half an hour. A very pleasant discovery!

Then it’s the turn of L’Ordegno, a hardcore punk group from Trieste that has two albums and one split. For a long time I hadn’t seen them, I won’t hide the fact that I was here also to be able to see Luca, their guitarist, on stage with them again. They were able throughout the set, also stuffed with new songs, to convey a mix of emotions: anger, happiness and desire for revenge. Same feelings that the guys are able to give us with their lyrics. Thanks L’Ordegno!

In this fest, there is also place for Jay Terrestrial from Inner Terrestrials and Firepit Collective, who our friend Benedetta has managed to bring to various venues in northern Italy. It was a great idea to have an acoustic set, because with so many groups it broke the mad rhythm for a moment. His talent is remarkable and his political lyrics, mixed with rhythms from the English folk tradition and punk rhythms, make the set full of enthusiasm and desire to dance. Mention of honour for “Bella Ciao” in English, wonderful!

Then two fifths of L’Ordegno are back on stage, because it is the turn of Minoranza di Uno. Guglielmo on vocals is now an integral part of the band, while I compliment Sbingo, for the first time on guitar and already in perfect tune with the rest of Minoranza. I have reviewed them a thousand times, so I will not dwell on it. I think I fell in love with this group, made up of fighting punks, people I respect very much and who through their lyrics and their music always know how to touch the right strings! In the last two songs Frisco from Soviet Order Zero, former Minoranza, sings two old tracks. The icing on the cake!

Meanwhile, the darkness begins to fall inexorably and as the first sweatshirts come out, in the smoking area, Labile from Bergamo begin to prepare; they’ve been playing for about 15 years but unfortunately I know them only for the split with Minoranza. Their set is super, the only flaw is probably that a guitar was a bit low in volume, but not bad, the band on stage had fun and was full of energy. I enjoyed their dynamic punk hardcore with many rhythm changes and I hope to see them again and hear new material very soon! Very good and moving the song dedicated to the singer’s friend and Gimmy Puglisi (I remind you we still have very few copies of the benefit compilation).

After a quick look at the distro and some other greetings it is the turn of Soviet Order Zero, a trio from Milan, made up of pleasant people and with great attitude. A raw punk rock/hardcore as we like, no frills and direct and impactful. After the concert I have the pleasure of having an interesting chat with Jerry, their bass player, who managed to take me to a virtual journey among the punk and anti-fascist realities in Milan!

Last on stage are Cup Souls, a band from Trieste that for what little I could hear, not because I did not want to, reminded me a lot of New Found Glory’s latest works, a combination of the early 2000 and the “new school” of pop-punk. More next time, sorry I can not tell more, sorry guys!

We end this live report thanking punks, comrades, bands and anyone who came here and worked for it. A strong hug to Luca from L’Ordegno (we’re with you!) and thanks once again for showing that the essence of punk is self-management, self-organization and doing things from below. For a counter-culture that opposes authority and the system, this is the only possible way to follow!

TOP 3:
1. Beppe’s hummus wins everything. The first time he performed in public in the culinary field, it immediately became a success. Applause!
2. The band descriptions of the Facebook event are simply fantastic. Read them here: https://www.facebook.com/events/2129823520584779/
3. As always, self-management wins! A successful concert and happy people. Congratulations to everyone!
